#V8 Central — Product & Technical Specification
This site is the single source of truth for building ServerAvatar V8 Central. It describes what Central has to do, how every module works, where the data comes from, and what is still missing or undecided.
#What V8 Central is
V8 Central is the commercial, multi-tenant control plane of ServerAvatar. A customer signs up once, works inside one or more organizations, pays for a plan through a subscription, and manages many servers from one place.
Each managed server runs the ServerAvatar Open Source panel (OSS). Central does not store server data. It keeps a small link record per server and reads and changes everything live through that server's OSS API, using the server's Central key (sv_central_…). This is the architecture rule R5 in the V8 requirements.
#How to read this spec
Every statement carries a status badge, so you always know whether something is confirmed, comes from V7 only, or is still missing:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| V8 requirement | Written in the V8 requirements doc (Priority 1) |
| OSS API | Exists today in the OSS panel API (checked in code at e60c6bd7) |
| V7 only | Exists in the V7 backend only. It's a functional reference and must be rebuilt fresh for V8 (rule R1) |
| Demo UI only | Seen only in the Central demo UI (concept reference, no backend) |
| Missing | Needed, but no backend support exists in V8 yet |
| Open question | Not decided. Listed in Open questions |
| Conflict | Two sources disagree. Needs a decision |
| Assumption | A working assumption, clearly marked, until it's confirmed |
| Planned, not built | Planned in the V8 doc, but no API paths or code exist yet |

Applications, databases and backups are not top-level Central modules. They appear inside Server Details, served live by the OSS API. See Server list & details.
